Our Lord will guide us!

A pillar of cloud to guide us!

A pillar of cloud to guide us!

As I watched the horror unfolding at the school in Connecticut, yesterday, I was reminded that our Lord holds this world in His hands. He told us that it would continue to become darker as the light would get brighter.

What does this mean? Well, if one is now forced to acknowledge evil in this world, then we must also understand that there is a force of good. A supreme being which controls this universe. The eyes of those in darkness are now opened to the Truth.

In the face of tragedy, those long-held beliefs of us becoming our own god, that truth is relative to each person. How can this be, when our own Lord tells us, “The heart of man is evil, who can know it?” We see that this cannot be. How can all of us live according to our own dictates? As this would mean that this horrible act of murder, is fine, if this was this man’s truth.

I was reading about Winston Churchill’s beliefs being challenged, when he was in the midst of war. All the philosophical ideas, which he purported, now came into question. As he realized none of them held up when facing his enemies. He revisted the Christian ideals which his nanny had instilled in him. He stated that it isn’t when times are easy, that people ponder the question of eternity.

No, we must acknowledge that there is a moral code, programmed into each human being. We know that these acts are evil. Our Lord told us in His Word, that “His laws have been written upon every mans heart, so that we have no excuse when we stand before Him.” (Hebrews 8:10)

Truth is absolute. It is one of our Lord’s names. He told us that by this Truth, we would also be hated, by those who choose to continue in their ways. But this Truth guides us and protects us. We must understand that we are in a world full of evil. But if we look to Him, for guidance, He will always lead us. He loves us and desires us to “turn to Him in our time of trouble. And He shall deliver us.”

The god of this present age, has tried to push Him out of the picture. Saying as the serpent did, in the garden, “Did God really say that you shouldn’t eat of this tree?” Questioning God’s authority is the beginning of our downward spiral. As a nation founded on God’s Word, and as a world system. We cannot move forward without His lead.

On my trip to Israel, the Lord reminded me of this in a very profound picture. As we stood around the Menorah, in front of the Knesset, we began to pray. Suddenly, clouds appeared as pillars, above the Menorah. It was a most incredible sight and I was grateful that I caught it on my camera.

A reminder that, “He would guide us as a pillar of cloud by day, and fire by night.” Of course this was just a word picture, but I knew He had done this same thing for Moses and the Israelites. To give them a concrete picture of His presence. I have show these pictures to many people. I don’t need this reminder, as some people do. But the Lord wanted me to share this very powerful picture with others, so they know, He is always watching over us.

His desire is that we turn to Him, as children run to their father’s in times of distress. We need to go back to the foundation. The very beginning. Where things began to turn bad. As Nehemiah did, we must also recognize that it is only with our God, that we can and must rebuild.

If it were not for our Lord, no one would have been able to escape Egypt. It is for this reason, He told them to depend solely, on Him. For guidance and all their needs, while wandering. Yes, He delivered them from Egypt. A picture of our world in this day. But because of their stubbornness, He allowed them to wander. Even in the midst of their wandering, He taught them, that all of their provision comes from Him.

But we as people, like to repeat history. And it is; HIS story. He allows us each to go our own way. But in spite of this, He provides for us. Until we can come to the realization, that He is our Father. And like a Father, He doesn’t want us to turn to Him, as children who are caught doing wrong. Or to get something in return. But He wants us to turn to Him out of love and devotion. And as the Prodigal Son came running, He stands with His arms opened wide! Patiently waiting for us to realize that this world has nothing to offer us. He loves us. Stop running and turn to Him.

Be careful how you judge.

This was the news which I had pulled up this morning. http://www.aolnews.com/world/article/neo-nazi-couple-find-out-theyre-jewish/19648414?icid=main%7Cmain%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%7C173151.

I was fascinated, since, I had been telling people this for years. Be very careful of your bigotry. You just may find you are one of the people you hate. This is so ignorant to hate a class of people for their ethnicity. It really comes down to a fear of what one doesn’t understand.

The Jews were scattered and the tribes ended up all over this planet. Always hiding, because of the hatred others had toward them. The Lord told us that in the last day, they would be restored and I see evidence of this everywhere. But remember, these people were chosen, for good reason. And how do you know that you are not of these people? Even if you are not a descendant, remember also, by faith, we are grafted into this vine, becoming heirs of the covenant made with Abraham.

Isn’t it amazing how the Lord turns our gaze, back to ourselves? He warned us many times, to be careful how we judge, and this story is such a picture of this scripture being revealed. “Be careful how you judge, lest you be judged by the same measure you use.”

Of course, this is happening more and more, as the ability to trace our genealogy, becomes easier. These days were also referred to in the book of Daniel. The angel told Daniel that the things he witnessed, “would not be revealed until the time of the end. When people would be running to and fro, seeking knowledge.” Of course, with the advent of computers and all of this technology, we know this age as, “the information age.”

When we see all of these things happening, we can be sure that the Lord is standing at the door. I believe we are living in the most exciting times, biblically speaking. And now it is time for people to get their households in order. Find out who you are, in this ‘family tree.’ The Lord tells us, “I am the vine, you are the branches, and all who abide in me, shall bring forth much fruit.”

He also told us to, learn of me. Jesus was born of the nation of Israel for a reason. There is a purpose and a plan in everything God did. Learn of Him, and you will find out who you are as well.  This is not a religious experience, but an intimate relationship with your creator! He has told us, “not one jot or tittle, shall pass away, before His return. If you want to know what that is, they are the smallest characters in the Hebrew alphabet. He is telling us that, every single, word, has meaning and purpose.

The information age, indeed. Find out what this information means to you!

One of My Greatest Accomplishments:

100_0065_00 Getting kicked out of a Jewish nursing home.

Yes, such a rabble-rouser I am! I had gone in to this nursing home to visit a girl who I had met in the bible study we had started. It was in a residence that we would go to weekly for people with the aids virus. At times the people who were very ill would be sent to the hospital, hospice or nursing homes in other areas for care.

Well, this happened to be a Jewish facility, however, non Jews were also sent to this nursing home, as well.

On this particular day, I was walking in and I was wearing a shirt that had Isaiah 53 on it. This is the messianic chapter of Isaiah. It speaks all about the prophecies of Jesus and what He would accomplish, detailing what the nation of Israel was to look for in their messiah. It is amazing prophecy and every detail, indeed was fulfilled by Jesus, which can be pointed out to any Jew, to prove that Yeshua (Jesus), is the Jewish messiah, sent to the nation of Israel, including the fact that  He is also of the lineage of David. Now since Jesus was crucified and the temple was destroyed taking with it all genealogical records, making this crucial fact impossible to carry on any further into history. It seemed to prove once again that the prophets were all on the same page when it came to the stated lineage from the “messiah coming from the house of David.”

A funny thing with the Christian church. It seemed that the Old Testament was not a course of study for many. A very sad thing indeed, since it is our command to “witness first to the Jew then to the Gentile.” How can we do this if we don’t understand the Jewish mind?

Isaiah 53, is a chapter that is left out in many synagogues. Of all the chapters in the book of Isaiah, it is the one in the whole book of Isaiah that is the crucifixion in its entirety! That’s right. It’s no wonder that it is left out. By chance? I’m not sure or if it is spiritually swept under the rug, so to speak. But read it yourself. I will save that for my next post, however, I walked into that nursing home and the little old man named Charlie sat in his wheelchair and what happened next can only be described as supernatural.

It was my family. We were walking and as I approached, he was reading. He looked as if he was too old to see, but yet he was reading the text on the shirt, “he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities, the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds, we are healed.”

As he read, I asked him his name. He told me, “Charlie.” Well, Charlie, do you know who that is about?” “No” “That is about Jesus, the messiah”

At this point, I had no idea what belief he was, but he said, “I never heard any of this in Hebrew school.” I smiled. He looked to be about 80 or so. I already knew quite a bit about Hebrew school. “No,” I said, “I wouldn’t imagine you would . Listen, Charlie, Did you know that Jesus, has already come, and He’s coming back again?

He looked at me with eyes opened wide. “How come I’ve never heard this before?” He asked. “Well, Charlie, “Perhaps, No one else really understands or knows this, but He has come to the nation of Israel, and all you have to do is believe. He is about to return again. Do you want me to pray with you?” At this point Charlie grabbed my arm and he had tears in his eyes. “You’re the first person that has ever given me hope!” He said. I almost started crying.

As we sat in the hallway and I stood with my family and we were praying with him, a bunch of people were starting to pass by for the dinner hour. All of the older people were staring as they were walking by. All of a sudden I felt a woman stop and she seemed to be very agitated. Then a man came behind me. As I ended the prayer, the woman angrily yelled, “What church are you from?” I answered, “I’m not from a church.” “Well, what religion are you?” I’m not a religion.”” Well, I heard you say the name of Jesus!” “Yes, I did,” I said.

Now the man stepped in. I sensed he was trying to calm this woman down as she seemed very reactive. “Who are you visiting?” He asked. “Well, I originally came in to visit Linda, but Charlie started talking to me and then he said I could pray with him.” “That doesn’t sound like Charlie at all.” He said. Hmm, I said, “Yes, I suppose, that is totally out of character.” “Go to dinner Charlie, he yelled. At this point Charlie seemed clearly excited by the whole thing and I sensed that this was the most drama he’d experienced in a long time. He started wheeling himself down the hall and I was praying that the Lord was filling him with His spirit as he was leaving. I was praying that he really understood what he had done.

At this point the Administrator was looking at me intently and I realized he was staring at the necklace I was wearing. It is a Star of David with a Cross in the middle of it. It has been a source of confusion for many. I’ve had people ask, “are you trying to cover all the bases?” lol “Are you Jewish or Christian?” Never realizing that to be a Christian does in essence make you a Jew. The first Christians were all Jews and we are of the same vine.

So now the man is staring and he says, “When you come in here you must visit the person you come in to visit!” I said, “Are you kidding me? This is a nursing home. These people are happy to have anyone visit them.” “Yes, he says, but you can’t just go around praying for people!” And in the name of Jesus! This is a Jewish home!” I said, “I may be more Jewish than you. Now, let me ask you something. If the name of Jesus,  doesn’t mean anything and it doesn’t carry any power, then why are you so disturbed that I should pray for someone in that name?”

At this point he became very upset and said, “I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” “Ok, I said. And at that, he escorted us out the back door. As soon as we were out, my ex husband and daughter and I laughed and high-fived each other at the thought of Charlie and all the excitement he had just experienced and the talk in the cafeteria that evening.

I had a sadness at the conversation though as I realized he’d been all through school and had never heard about the messiah promised to the nation of Israel. That is not until he was in his latter years. To grab my arm. It reminded me of the time I was in the hospital praying with a young man about to die. He did the same thing. The desperation in his eyes as he grabbed me. It was the same look. The Lord loves these souls. So much that He snatches them away from the jaws of the enemy, right before the end, through someone elses hands. I love to be the one to see that. There is nothing that compares.

I remember being in a church once and being so active in ministry that we joked of being in the “inner circle,” before, the church became all crazy and split. I wasn’t happy as I was happiest when I was serving outside the church. My joke became that we were so far in the inner circle we were out! The other day my son came up with something even better, he said, I was in more of a cul de sac! lol I loved that! I was never into status. I was the one that went into places that no one would want to go. Because this is where I would want someone to come if I was all alone. In the nursing homes, in the hospital.

I don’t care how wealthy or poor a person is, they will all face this one day.

Now, after Charlie had made this decision, I wondered if he really knew what he had done. I wanted to confirm this decision and wanted to give him a bible. I also had a book written by a holocaust survivor that had come to know the messiah, and I knew Charlie loved to read.

But how were we going to get into that nursing home? As my daughter and her dad and I were talking one day about this dilemma, we stood in a mall near our home. We looked up and there about 50 feet away from us stood the Administrator of this nursing home with another man! We could not believe our eyes, as this nursing home was quite a distance from this mall. “Well,” I said, “I guess this is a sign, that it’s time to go!” We laughed as we drove over to this place and the minute we walked in, there was Charlie in his chair right by the door. And as sure as we knew the Lord would confirm to us, he looked right at us and said, “Hey, did you guys get in trouble?” lol “Nah! Not too much! How about you?” “Oh, no, I told everyone about what you guys told me! he said, excitedly!” Then I gave him the books and he was so touched.

I think about the seeds that had been planted through Charlie in that nursing home and how sharp he was. I would do it all again. To be kicked out of a nursing home before I was ever accepted in! There is no greater accomplishment than that! If only the Administrator would have given me an award for my wall!

To the Greatest Rabble Rouser of the Jewish Nursing Home

Hmmm, come to think of it, I may have come in second for that as well!

Elijah’s Cup

Always waiting for my redeemer

Always waiting for my redeemer

Well the Passover is still being celebrated and next it will be the Easter celebration. But what was Passover? It is what my last post was about. It was a remembrance of the release from captivity for all the nation of Israel. God’s miraculous power and the way He designed the release was all a foreshadow of the coming messiah. Everything that the nation of Israel was told to do was to point to a future event.

Now we know that Jesus sat at a Passover when he had his “last supper.” This was all part of the plan and signs to those that had spiritual eyes and ears. The Jews that understood all the prophecies of the prophets could draw a picture and confirm that Christ was indeed who He claimed to be. The fulfillment of the prophecies all culminated with His hanging from the cross and the resurrection. However, how could so many Jews celebrated Passover and not understand that the messiah had indeed come and He is coming back again? Well for many Jews, just as many non-Jews, the Passover is just another ritual. They are remembering the past, however, have no idea that this pointed to Christ and His ministry on this earth. How can they know if they have not searched for the truth, like many of us? This is when you will see the many symbols within the Passover and why they were told to celebrate in this manner. God wants to reveal Himself to all of us that are seeking.

At the Seder table you can see the symbols of Christ everywhere. It is rich with the pictures of Him. The matzo, as I stated is unleavened bread and leaven was always referred to in a symbolic mannerm, as sin. This is why God foreknew that this would be Christ sitting at His own Seder before He was crucified and passing this. Breaking it into pieces to share with each of his disciples and saying, “Take eat, this is my body which is broken for you.” Now He told them as they ate, they should  no longer do this as a remembrance of their release from Egypt, but in remembrance of Him” This is why He also took the cup, which is standard with four glasses of wine. As the Jews had done year after year, they drank the cups in remembrance of the release from bondage as Hebrew slaves. Now Christ told them to drink of this cup, for this is now my blood shed for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” He told them that this would be the New Covenant that was being instituted by the shedding of His own blood. This was the lamb replacing the lamb that was sacrificed at twilight on Passover. When Christ was crucified it was at the exact time that the High Priest was making the animal sacrifice in the temple. This was all part of God’s plan.

When you look at the matzo, you will see that it is striped with lines. It also has pierce markings throughout. This is done with a tool to keep it from forming bubbles as it bakes. This also is a picture. The prophet Isaiah, lived approximately 500 years before Christ came to earth, However when you read Isaiah 53, you will read every prophetic sign that the prophet pointed out. This includes the stripes and piercings. ( Isaiah 53:5)”He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities, the punishment that brought us peace and by His stripes we are healed.

We can see that the Lord knew that what He was telling the disciples was that up until this point you have celebrated Passover in remembrance of the past. That was just a picture. This is now the New Covenant and you will celebrate the Passover with new meaning. I AM the Passover. My blood being shed for you will cause the Angel of Death to pass over you upon death. You will not suffer the second death.

Now when you look at the lamb shank bone on the Passover table, you can remember what Christ has done. “He was led like a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7)

The Jews were required to sacrifice the lamb, however the temple was destroyed in 70 AD and no sacrifice could be made anyway. But we know  this to be true because the sacrifice had already been made.

The cup is placed at the head of the table for Elijah. The prophet that would be the forerunner of the Messiah. He was the one who would announce His coming and did so through John the Baptist. This cup is always waiting for the prophet and the children go and check the door to see if the messiah has arrived.

The most amazing part of the Seder is the Afikoman. The matzo is broken into three pieces and hidden in the linen. The Afikoman is the middle piece. It is a picture of Christ wrapped in linen and hidden in the tomb. The father takes the middle piece, symbolic of Christ, the second part of the Godhead,(the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) and breaks it in two pieces. (His body broken for us.) The larger piece of the Afikoman is taken and hidden somewhere until later when the children will try and find it. “Seek the Lord while He may be found.” (Isaiah 55:6)At the end of dinner this piece is broken into smaller pieces and shared with every person at the table. Hence, Christ sharing himself with His followers. He did this symbolically when He passed the broken pieces around the table and told them to “take eat, this do in remembrance of Me.”

The third cup of wine at the Seder is the Cup of Redemption. It is the new covenant that Christ shared with His disciples. This He said, “is the new covenant made with my blood. As you drink, do this in remembrance of Me.”

The disciples had a keen understanding of what Christ was saying, because they knew that He was telling them that a new covenant was being established, however, they did not quite understand that He would have to literally die.

At the Seder the bitter herbs are eaten. This is symbolic of our own bitter lives before release from the captivity of sin. We also remember the suffering of the Messiah as we eat them. The horror of our own sin, placed upon Him. The Father could not even look upon Him, because He bore our sin as He hung from the cross. This is when Christ felt abandoned, “my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” What a desolate feeling of loneliness He must have suffered on our own behalf, at that moment.

The salt water that the herbs are dipped into, are symbolic of the tears of our own bondage to slavery and how much we suffered before finding our redemption in Christ.

A wonderful book for believers to use for a Seder is called,Celebrate the Feasts, by Martha Zimmerman. There are quite a few on the market now, but for a christian version, you may look in a Christian bookstore, or even a Messianic bookstore. The Passover is a rich experience and it is so incredible to finally receive a greater revelation of what our Lord actually did for us.

Now after you had experienced a Seder, you may say, as I did; “How is it the Jew does not see their Christ is the center of this whole dinner?” Well, because, they only have half of the story. Just as Gentile believers cling to their traditions and have no understanding of Old Testament practices and why these were so important. The Jew that has not come to know what Christ actually did accomplish, will not be able to see that He indeed fulfilled everything that their own prophets foretold. It is only as they learn of Christ that they can actually see He is the purpose of the Passover. So once again, I encourage Gentile believers to learn about the Lord’s festivals so that your eyes will also be opened and you can open the eyes of others.

The Blues Brother’s…Or Are They Kosher?

I brought my mentally challenged brother down from Wisconsin to live with me a few years ago and it’s been hilarious and sometimes quite a challenge, since I also have a ten year old son. He gets jealous at times. My brother has the mentality of a very young boy and it makes it quite easy for my son to manipulate him.

A couple of years ago he decided that he wanted to be dressed as one of the Blues Brother’s for Halloween and my brother was going to be the other one. Sure, my brother is going along with the plan whether he wants to or not. But since they had both just watched the movie, my brother loved the idea. I told my son that I could get the disguise they needed at a thrift store and I was very good at putting things together, but no, he had a better plan. Since most ten year old boys know everything that there is to know, they can tell you how it is. We were in a party store and lo and behold, my son saw a ready made Blues Brother’s kit. Come on guys! What a bunch of sell outs! How much do you get for selling this to the kids? I told him, “those are not the right kind of hats!” But I reiterate…He knows everything!” “Yes, they are and that’s all we need, it even has the harmonica’s in it! Yea, like they’re really going to be playing those and if they do I will really be ready to go looking the “Blues Brother’s.”

I get the kits and bring them home. My son puts his on and puts my brother’s on him and I just about fell out laughing. “Ok,” I said, you look like anything but some blues musicians. Maybe some Orthodox jews going to temple. My brother just happened to be wearing a shirt that he got from an Amish farm he had been visiting once and that made it even more hilarious, because without the glasses, that’s what he looked like. An Amish farmer!

I was in my uniform an getting ready for work when this little production was taking place and I was watching my son, always the performer, acting like he was praying and playing the harmonica. Issuing commands to my brother;”Kevin, put the harmonica up to your mouth! No, like this! Now turn around so your sister can take your picture! Now bow down, like this! No, like this!”

I was cracking up! And now I heard a knock on the door! I went to open it up and standing there were two women with books in there hands. “Oh no,” I said. “Are you Jehovah’s Witnesses?” “Yes,”We are” “Well I am just on my way to work and I don’t have time to talk.”

After closing the door, I told my daughter. “Oh, my gosh. There were just two Jehovah’s Witnesses at the door! If only I would have been quicker to think. I could have sent my son andmy brother as the two Rabbi’s! ” Then my daughter being just as witty stated, “how do you know they were really Jehovah’s Witnesses?” At this I just fell out laughing! “Ahhh, true, very true! We could all just be imposters!”

We went to the harvest festival down the street and we bumped into a good friend of ours who just happens to be a Messianic Jew and when he saw my son he said, “you look just like a rabbi!’ and to my brother who was not wearing the glasses because they were too dark, he replied, “and you look like an Amish guy!”

This was so much fun that my son said that next year he wants to dress up as the Bee Gees. Hmmm, I’m feeling sorry for my brother already!
