The Man in the Mirror

Throw off everything that hinders you!

Throw off everything that hinders you!

I just heard of a famous man that had been a respected man with great accomplishments in his career, yet when he died, his whole life was marked by the last moments on this earth.

I loved watching his movies and his soft spoken voice. He seemed to personify the character that most people want in a hero. Yet the media picked up the ugly details of his demise and exposed it for all the public.

As much as his own family and friends wanted to cover this up and I’m sure their pain is tremendous, it is too late. Once it is exposed, there’s no stopping it.

The Lord tells us, “fall on the Rock and be broken, lest the Rock fall on us and break us to pieces.” He wants us to repent and be broken or it will happen anyway. The latter causes pain for everyone involved.

The darkness can stay covered for  only so long. “Be sure to know your sin will find you out.” Our sin hurts everyone. It is selfish.

Now, I’m quite sure that this is not the legacy that this man would have chosen for himself and would have longed for the freedom that Christ could have offered, had he only known that Truth is the way out. He could have finished the race a winner.

I was speaking with a man about this and said, “it is not who you are in the public eye. You can take people to church with you and lead very public ministries. You can pastor the largest church in the country. But the man that you are when no one is looking, is the one that the Lord is going to deal with. If you are not the same man that you are in the mirror, then be sure that He is the one that will expose the truth for the whole world to see. He may delay this for your own benefit, so that you find repentance, however, if you do not, God will not be mocked. God does not care about your “good works.” He cares about the condition of your soul.

Look what James says, “Get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word that has been planted in you which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word and deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, bot doing it, he will be blessed in what he does. (James1:22-25)

Do you think it’s difficult to be the same man when you are in front of people and in private? Then it is because you haven’t been looking into the perfect law, enough. It is searching the scriptures, which is able to make you wise. Remember, the “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” The reason that we have a country on the brink of ruin, is that there has been no fear of God.

Finish the race with integrity and wisdom that can only come from God. If you are to run the race you must, “cast off everything that hinders you” and this can only be done through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I am saddened every time I hear of a person that has lived a life full of accomplishments and ended it in such a sad way. It is as if they collapsed right before the finish line.

The words that I want as my legacy are these, “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Remember also he tells us that wait, “no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind conceived, what I have for those that love me.” Of course we cannot comprehend this. We have a human, finite mind, and His is infinite. For His promises, I hold on, because He is the only one that keeps His promises. He will deliver us when the final race is over.
