Her Value is Far Above Rubies

A wife of noble character

It has taken me a while to analyze and study this portion of Proverbs 31. This is the epilogue for the ‘Wife of Noble Character.” And although all of these characteristics may be difficult to be fulfilled in one wife/mother, it is the essence of a “Godly woman,” versus a worldly woman.

What sets a Proverbs woman apart from the rest of the world? We can look at all the beautiful women and always find ourselves lacking. Dealing with the pornography industry, which is the leader in the market, should tell us which sins are the major stronghold for most men. So understanding this should make us ask ourselves, what makes me different?

In verse 30, it explains the difference. We are women of the kingdom, and we start to have a different attitude about ourselves and the world around us. The verse says it all; “Charm is deceptive, beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

Now look at that verse and look at the people whom you have had admiration for. Is it because of their beauty? Is this something they have mastered as a skill? Isn’t the outward appearance, totally left to the Lord? Haven’t you met some person who had no outward beauty, yet you were drawn to them? And conversely, some outwardly striking people, have had such a terrible disposition, that you just couldn’t stand to look at them, ruining the vessel which God had given them.

Look at the description of our Lord, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire Him. (Isaiah 53:2) Yes, He was not placed in a vessel of a gorgeous man, nor in a royal family, yet people were drawn to Him, because He was filled with the Spirit of God. We are like Him, when we are filled with His spirit.

It is very liberating to realize this and surrender to His will. No more competing with the world. You have people who are drawn to you for the Holy Spirit, living in you, not your appearance. Oh, believe me, I had fallen into the trap. I know, being focused on the natural is all-consuming and it is impossible to please. The Lord has shown me this through an intense purging in my life. Now I am asking the Lord to remove what is not of Him. I do not long for the things of this world, which are temporal. The accolades which men are so proud of, are not something I aspire to. I am His servant, and very proud to call myself by this title.

I had recently looked at a profile which my brother created for me on some website, and even that spoke of exaggeration and arrogance. It’s not that he wasn’t trying to help, but he is of a different mind. He is still focused on the business world, and not an inkling of God’s hand in his life. Everything he does, he has attributed to himself, and one day my prayer is that he will understand, it is the Lord who has made him the person he is. He is ‘the potter,’ we are ‘the clay.’ That is not to say, he hasn’t worked hard, he has. But there are many hard-working people in this world who have not achieved the leve of success which my own brother has achieved, and that is because the Lord has poured His grace on him.

I was sharing an experience with a couple of women the other day, and it was about Dr. office I had gone to when I had fallen down. They were laughing so hard, since the whole experience is hilarious. It seemed it was a cover for a pain clinic, and I pursued the adventure to the very end. Of course, it didn’t take me long to realize, the Lord was sending me on a personal mission. He had healed me right before the end, thereby avoiding any need for medication, which would have defeat the purpose, with this doctor.

As I finished the story, the girl asked, “Why would you go to this place to have the MRI? I would have been terrified.” I shared that I have a passion for writing, and I felt I needed to investigate the whole thing.  I would call this more of a spiritual adventure, and the Lord does the ‘uncovering.’ I knew that the Lord was the one sending me, so why should I fear? As they said, “you should have reported him.” I said, “No, that wasn’t my job. Besides, a few days later I saw a rash of investigations on these “pill mills,” all over the city. So I knew the Lord wanted me to speak to this man directly and give him a chance. I don’t question God’s methods, and he tells us, “I do not delight in those who shrink back.”

Well, I had gone through so much in the last couple of years, and I had been ‘shrinking back,’ from my mission and my calling. Now the Lord was reminding me, I am this woman. Set apart from the world, and the light in me is not to bring punishment, but to turn mens hearts back to Him.

When we are sent by Him, we have His supernatural protection. Which I did. It is an amazing story and the Lord enabled me to speak to the doctor about what he was doing and a young boy who was working at this place. The boy was only 19, and I was sad to see him dispensing pills like candy to people as they came in the door. He was drawn to me from the first day I came in. This is where I could see the Spirit drawing him. We do not always know who we are being sent to. It says that the Holy Spirit woos people, whom the Father is drawing. It is much like a romantic interlude.

This is what I mean when I tell you that people will be drawn or repulsed by the Spirit. The Lord tells us that some would “hate us because of Him.” However, it also says, “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere a fragrance of the knowledge of Him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.(2 Cor.14-16)

All my life I have wondered in amazement as I watched people seem to hide from me. It only made me more curious. I never understood why this was happening and they would point to the very truth, that they were trying to hide. It is almost comical.  But finally the Lord reminded me of the resurrection power which I carry within me. “The ‘belt of truth,’ buckled firmly around my waist. It is the light which dispels darkness. And it is what I am supposed to be shining to those in darkness to find their way out. Not as a means of condemnation. “For God did not send His son into this world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”(John 3:17) His mere presence, drew people or made them run in fear. Although, it is the power of His perfect love, which ‘casts out all fear.

This is what He has given us in the vessels, which makes us so powerful. And the woman who has this is the greatest of all. As the Proverb says, v29, “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”(v31) “Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gates.”

As I have recognized my true identity, I realized that I don’t care for the praises of men. Yes, I had been unfairly treated many times. Cheated all my life, yet that never bothered me.As long as I was doing the work of the Lord, I didn’t care. It wasn’t until I allowed the hurts toc creep in and my soul was unguarded, that the enemy’s arrows were able to injure me. Yes, the enemy knows all your deepest wounds, and if he can, this is what he wants to touch. We cannot allow this pain to keep us from our calling. This is the ultimate warfare and we press on until we overcome. We hold onto nothing, so that when he comes again, we can say like Christ, “The prince of this world has come and he has nothing in me.”

But it isn’t until I truly understood the meaning of this, that I can see how different we are. I understand the purpose of the intense warfare, as I shared with my friend. The ultimate goal is for us to be “conformed to His image.” He didn’t look at His own royal blood and hold onto anything. He became the servant to all men.

Now who can put a value on this?
