My Daily Bread….And A Toaster!

birds of the air and fish of the sea

What could cause birds to just fall from the sky and fish to just die for no reason at all?

Well man will always find a natural reason to dismiss this, because they cannot or will not give a supernatural excuse for this. But if you care to seek God’s meaning to life, and His words, He has already spoken of these days.

Now I have been watching these things unfold by watching people around me, especially my own family. I have my mother with me right now. And she’s been through so much. She’s been betrayed by the people she’s loved the most and they’ve tried to turn the tables on her. Robbed of her last earthly possessions. Yes, I’ve always told her, she would have been better off at the hands of total strangers. And even the strangers, which she grew to trust, in the end, had also betrayed her. They all collaborated with family to scheme against her. A very sad set of circumstances. And it wasn’t as if she had an estate. But thieves are thieves. It matters not whether rich or poor.

But I was sad for my mother. I watched her suffer for most of her life. I was amazed to see her lose so much, and the loss of two sons, didn’t bring tears, yet now, I listened in amazement, as she told me she was waking up from her sleep with tears. I knew it was not the loss of her belongings, so much as it was the fact that the people she loved, could be so cruel.

I was angry. But I was also angry at the fact that Stuff, could cause such greed in people. And it was just junk. Now I had problems with my daughter. I had finally cleaned out her bedroom of years full of stuff.  I told her father to let her know, she needed to go through it. We were going to declutter and sell it at a yard sale. This hoarding had to come to and end. While I was on the phone, my son came running into the room and he was telling me that he was upset because my brother had taken his piece of felt, which was a cat toy. He claimed it was his.

That was the final straw! I got off the phone. I went into the room with the piece of felt and had my meltdown. I said, “You are all so worried about your Stuff! Your aunt just passed away a few months ago and she was worried her whole life about her stuff! Grandma is in that room, and she’s worried about her stuff! Your sister’s stuff is all piled up in the hallway! Here! You want your stuff?”

I promptly took the piece of felt and tore it in half. I threw a piece to my son and a piece to my brother. As my son tossed his back at me, my brother could feel my anger and came up to me and calmly rubbed my arm and said, “Thank you, my sister. Thank you.”

Wow. I thought. That is how we are supposed to be. He was thankful for his half piece of the cat toy. lol

I decided for Christmas I was going to make my mother as comfortable as she could be. I want her to be happy. I know she smokes and am not even going to attempt to make her quit. She eats chocolate and she swears it is what keeps her healthy. I make her the meals and leave them when I go. It’s the only way I know she’s eating a sensible meal.

For Christmas, I decided to give her an electric cigarette. I heard from my friends that they’re great and I thought, “hey, she won’t get all the carcinogens, and it’s not flammable. she’ll probably get a kick out of it. ” But they aren’t cheap.

We all had a lot of fun getting her gifts and my son wanted to get her some really nice slippers and a warm blanket, because he said, “he wants her to stay warm. As they banter back and forth, his nickname for her is, “bad grammar.” Since she’s always telling him, he’s guilty of this misdemeanor.

After Christmas I noticed that my mother was not using anything that we had given her. She still kept talking about the things that had been taken from her. “Mom,” I said, I know, it was a terrible thing that they have done to you. I’m not denying this. And it will be dealt with. But you have wonderful things that you have received. Why don’t you use them? I mean is there anything you need, that you don’t have, right now?” Then she answered, “Well, I don’t have my toaster!”

Oh, my gosh. I just cracked up. “Mom, are you telling me that you would pay money to store, and ship a $2 toaster? And where would you put a toaster right now?”

It made me realize that my mother, like the people who had stolen her things, was only looking at the things that she did not have. “Mom,” I said, look at what you have, right now. You have everything you need. And when you need a toaster, you’ll have your toaster.”

When, I heard the news about the birds falling from sky and the fish dying, I said, “surely this is a sign from the Lord. It is not natural for birds and fish of only one species to just die. But the Lord would speak to us in a manner such as this. When I see such despicable behavior as I have in my own life, I hear the voice of the Lord, loud and clear. This is the word which was spoken out of Hosea 4:1-4

Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring.against you who live in the land.

There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgement of God in the land.

There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery.

They break all bounds(COVENANTS) and bloodshed follows bloodshed,

Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away, the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the fish of the sea are dying.

Well, covenants are broken. We go back to the justice system, the mortgage crisis, banking, marriages, etc. It is the whole mess.

So, what do we need in these times? We need to learn to trust God each day for our daily bread. To walk in total trust. For our needs. As He taught the nation of Israel when they wandered the desert and He rained down manna. This was their, “daily bread.”He gave them nothing more, so they would not waste. I heard it stated today that, “there is a hoarder inside each one of us.” I believe that is true. The enemy of our souls wants to distract us with stuff. So we cannot see what is truly important. That is our total reliance on our heavenly Father and it is where our faith really begins to grow.

It is to seek God. It is what the Lord spoke of when He told us to travel light. When we come to realize, we have our daily bread, but we don’t need a toaster!

How To: Make more storage space in memory

We only use about 10% of our brain

We only use about 10% of our brain

That’s right folks…I have it figured out. What do I have figured out?

How to use more brain power and beat the odds. Oh yes, the experts tell us that we only use about 10% and the rest is what? I wasteland? Hmmm, that’s ridiculous. But today, this day, I figured out the whole problem. So this is my idea and you absolutely must credit me if you decide to pass this one on.

It all started as I sat at my brother’s soccer game. My brother is, as many of you know, mentally challenged. Or is he? I really don’t know when I watch these people playing and recount the conversation that I was having with one of the parents.

He brings his beautiful daughter to the games and she is normally wheelchair bound. But the love of this father is so strong, that he literally holds her up as she walks. She wants so badly to have her social time, that he holds her up as she dances, plays soccer, bowls, plays baseball and every other activity that this wonderful group offers.

As I said, I was having a conversation with him. His daughter has a big crush on my son, and this man also adores my son and his sense of humor. He was telling me that “sometimes I forget how young Noah is. He seems like a guy that could be sitting on the bar stool next to me.” I laughed and agreed. Sometimes I feel the same way, and if Noah had his choice, that’s probably where he’d be sitting. I think he thinks he’s older, as well.

Yes, the man said.” Your son is so witty that he even seems to get my satire.” That too, does make it challenging for me to discipline this, 11 year old. I find myself cracking up, when I’m supposed to be serious.

We looked up and my ex husband just arrived with my son as they stopped by his father’s house to pick up his dog. My friend’s daughter was thrilled to see Noah.

As we sat down and started joking around, this man, I’ll call Tom, said, “Hey, Rick, do you remember how much a key cost when we were young?” I assume they are about the same age, and he continued, “I mean what did we pay, like 25 cents or 3 for a buck, or something?”

“Yea,” Rick answered, it was something like that. “Oh,” I chimed in…”Rick knows the price of everything from his youth.” It’s one thing I can’t believe. He doesn’t remember what happened yesterday, but for some bizarre reason, for which neither he, nor myself, has ever been able to explain, he remembers the price of candy bars, gasoline, and all kinds of things from years gone by.” “Well,” Tom said, “I paid $130.00 for these stupid keys! And to make it worse, there’s only one place I could get them, so they really could have charged more.”

We couldn’t believe this. But what I couldn’t believe, even more than that was, that these guys actually have memory for all that other crap.

Tom, acknowledged that he too, can remember all of these unimportant facts. I said, “you know if you could only unclutter that closet of your mind where you store all of that useless information, you would have room for the really important stuff.”

“Yea, like my keys!” He said, excitedly, as if we had just discovered why he lost them in the first place. “Yes, exactly. Just think of all the things you could tap into if you cleaned out that closet!”

We were cracking up as my son sat silently listening to us. Then I said, “For example, the price of concert tickets. I mean, I couldn’t afford to go to a concert today, if I was a teenager.”

As if to pry some more memories from the clutter of Tom’s mind, he said, “Yea, I still remember when I went to see the Rolling Stones.” Now my son opened his mouth. “Wasn’t that when the dinosaurs roamed the earth?” At this Tom’s mouth opened and I knew he was trying to find something to thwart this 11 year old, but somehow, I couldn’t allow it. “Oh, Noah, he’s not talking about a band. They were  watching cavemen, in a stadium, rolling stones.

Haha! Tom was ready to punch me! “Now I know where he gets that from. “Yea, I said, I don’t know about those cavemen rolling stones, but my mom told me all about it!” My son was cracking up. Hmm, maybe he is the stone from the old block!
