I Must Be About My Father’s Business

A father and his daughter

Every day I think of my father and the words which he had spoken to me on our last visit. Sacred words. Only now, do I realize that my heavenly Father is helping me to carry out his final wishes.

With so much care to every detail, I can see how the Lord has orchestrated the events leading to my mother landing in my home. It may not have been pleasant, at first, but it was necessary.

As I look at life, I realize it is just an incredible maze of threads that don’t seem to make any sense at all. Then all at once they seem to tie together. We don’t see the whole picture. It seems to be something terrible happening and yet, the Lord tells us, “All things work together for good to those who love Him.”

When we place our trust in Him, and let Him guide us through the rough seas, we can find in the end, there is hope. And incredibly, I was able to remember, the promise made to my father.

“Give my love to your mother.” In this way, every day, I see that I am carrying his love forward to her. It is God’s way of providing for her as my father was not able to.

Just the other day, I was talking to her and telling her what a wonderful mother she has been. “Oh, I had to do those things.” She said. “No, you didn’t.” I said. “Some mother’s don’t care about those things at all. So I just want to tell you that I love you for being there for us. When you went through so much, you were so strong and you put us first. You tried not to hurt us, even though you were hurting.” All of a sudden, I felt her little hand on my arm, as I began to cry. For my mother, this small gesture, is huge. “Well, I love my kids.” She said.

We began talking about all the things her grandmother taught her. She loved her grandmother. I always wished I would have known her. “Yea, your grandmother would say, “don’t you worry about those people gossiping about you. If they’re talking about you, that just means, they’re leaving some other poor person alone!”

Who couldn’t love someone spouting wise words like that all the time? Man, I think I’d love hanging out with her. She sound’s like some kind of Virginia Woolf character. I think about her quote; “Use words to soak up life!”

Yes, words are creative power. The Lord told us they have the power to bless or curse. He created us in His image and we know that He created heaven and earth by the spoken word. This is why we should start the day with His Word.

If we don’t, we have all kinds of negative words coming at us, from every direction. The enemy loves, to turn the tables. Whatever problem he has, he makes it our problem. This is why we walk and talk in the word.

“I have hid your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

But the most important lesson is that we must, “be about our Father’s business.” We have no time to be distracted. The harvest fields are ready and we need to pray for the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers. The time is short…very short.

My earthly father gave me specific instructions before he left and I was to fulfill his wishes. If you listen to the Spirit, you know that all things natural speak of the spiritual. So, you will know what the Spirit is saying.

So stop fighting and speaking words of division. Bless each other and bring peace and unity. Put your hands to the plow, break up the fallow ground, so that seed can be planted in the hardest of hearts. This is what our Father wants. “The hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse. (Malachi 4:6)

Let Me Stay Low

Someone had admonished me about not addressing them by their title the other day. And I was amused by this. It was a person who had sent an email suggesting I be concerned about, “making a name for myself.” As if I really care about such things.

I have long since lost my desire for finding identity in worldly endeavors such as this, and have found the whole need for greed and identity is what has gotten our world system in the mess which it is in. The Lord has told us that we are in the grips of sin. It is why He came to redeem us.

It is also why He taught a very important lesson to His disciples the night He was betrayed. He washed their feet. At first, it was almost impossible for Peter to accept this example and Jesus pointed out that unless he learned this example, he would have no part in this ministry. The Son of God, came to serve, not to be served. What an incredible example to mankind.

I’ve often thought of this. The feet of our Lord. How He has shown so many examples of this. The dirtiest part, which at that time of history, walked the dusty roads. The woman, anointed His feet with her oil, her tears, and dried them with her hair. Yet, she felt more filth on the inside, and all the shame she felt, those accusers standing by, were worse, for the thoughts. In one message spoken, our Lord, silenced their wagging tongues, and cleansed her. Not only cleansed her, but also honored her among women. “Her name would be honored throughout history.” Mary Magdalene.

The woman who reached out in a throng of people to grab a piece of his garment. Just a touch. But faith so strong, to be healed. Crawling like an animal on the ground. In the dirt. If she could just get a touch. No pride. If she could just get something, anything. Let me just stay down. Who cares what anyone thinks about me? I just need a touch.

Isn’t this what our Lord wants? Be of no reputation. As He was. No identity. No pride. Nothing that the enemy can play with. Stay low. At His feet. Dirty and in need of Him. Knowing our need is the beginning of our healing. The foot of the cross.

“But He made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” (phillipians 2:7)

So, help me stay low. I want to be at your feet Lord. There’s no greater place in all of heaven and earth.

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

So what if this was it? The year where all debts were cancelled? A clean slate? Well, we are to preach the message as if it is the last hour. He has poured His Spirit out with this command.

It is His gift to mankind. In 2 Timothy4:2, we are told to, “Proclaim the message, in season and out. Point out errors, warn people, and encourage them. Be very patient when you teach them.”

As I said in my last post, some do not accept teaching. But I wanted to point out, not from a place of pride, teaching is only from the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. And it is with the genuine love for people and the concern for their soul, not for selfish ambition.

When I see people, striving to sell something as it relates to ministry, or self-promotion, I can only be a little bit suspicious. The enemy loves to get a foothold in this part of our soul. We are all very susceptible to this sin. I can see how many times he tripped me up with this. I almost smelled the smoke of my own burning flesh.

The other day I was thinking back to my rebellious youth. I had come into a department store and had started working with a girl who was very sweet and pretty naive. Another girl was a bit older than us and she was more worldly. She was a hard rocker, with a boyfriend in a rock band. So, I kind of fit right in the middle. She told us all about her escapades, as she went on the road with him and his band. Helen, shocked by all her stories, and me, just laughing at everything, as if I knew it all. I thought I was so cool. I saw Helen doing things she wouldn’t normally do, like smoke cigarettes.  Helen and I would go out after work to the place across the street. This is when I realized what it was to influence a persons behavior. Never thinking about the negative aspect. I just thought it was humorous.  I found this out at my performance interview.

My manager sat me down, and spoke. “Listen. You have tremendous leadership potential. You just need to channel this in the right direction.” There was another guy in a department who I would talk to when I would walk through the store. “You need to slow down.” He would tell me. “Hmm, whatever, that’s supposed to mean.” I thought. The guy was about in his 30’s and I thought he was older than dirt.

I was about 18, and I thought I had the world by the tail, and no one could tell me what to do. I sure had no idea what they were talking about. And no one could teach me anything about anything. Isn’t it funny how I can still remember their words now?

The Lord tells us, that the Holy Spirit calls all things into remembrance. He is our, “Paraklete,” or Counselor. So He had actually placed so many in my life all along my path, to guide me, to warn me, to encourage me. As my stubborn feet, kicked, and dug in. As I shook my own fist and questioned. He knew, I would one day bow my knee in repentance. But how much suffering came first. Yea, I had fun, but at what cost? Believe me, there’s a lot of very small print at the bottom of that bill of goods. There’s nothing in the end. With the Lord, there’s a much better deal. I’ll take the clean slate…Thank you! His blood, for my sins??? Why hesitate? Oh, and did I mention? It’s a FREE gift!

Now the Lord said to Peter that, “Satan had requested to sift him as wheat.” But he reminded him that He would pray his faith remain strong, and when he was finished, he turn and encourage his brothers.”

So we are all allowed the same opportunities. Our Heavenly Father, does not play favorites. And there is no sin too great to be forgiven. However, there is only one way up, and that is by bowing down. Repentance.

“Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord!

The Veil that Covers

“Mom, why did God give us eyelids?” My son just asked me that question the other day? “Well, it’s for protection from the elements. Besides, when we sleep, we have to keep the light out and we have shields for total darkness.”

Now I was glad, he was asking about God’s creation in the whole process. At his age, sometimes, children just question, is God really behind the whole thing, or some alien life form. Or perhaps the big explosion, made these eyelids of mine. Yea, I’m thinking even my 14 year old son, wouldn’t be buying that story. The zombies make way more sense, than, “hey son, there was a big explosion in space and we all came together and your face was made. Oh, and eyelids were formed so you could blink and sleep. Isn’t that amazing?” He’d say, “Mom, you are really insane.” But look people. This is what is taught as a science in your schools to your kids. They razzle, dazzle them with a bunch of words, and make it sound like a science. By the time they come out they think it’s real. But if you break it down in simple terms, this is what they’re saying.

So, my son say’s,” why didn’t God just let our eyes get wet?” I had to laugh at the sound of all of us crying all day long. For some people with hardened hearts, it sure wouldn’t hurt. I think there are people that do things in this world, who haven’t shed a tear. At the heartbreak they have caused. They’ve never uttered the words, “I’m sorry,” to the people they have hurt. They have never bothered to humble themselves to anyone. So perhaps that would be a good idea. But that wasn’t God’s plan.

God has a plan and it is coming soon. It involves His church. He refers to His church as His bride. It is an amazing analogy as I will point out. Many on this earth have not understood. In scripture it is referred to as “a mystery.” Yes, this is because the Bride is veiled, until her time of revealing.

But veiled to whom? “And even if our gospel is veiled it is veiled to veiled to those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians4:3 Now the true church of the Lord is not a building, as many believe. He specifically told his followers, “You also are like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1Peter 2:5) The Lord does not deliberately veil the gospel. But what I see in this, is that there are some who are hardened and no matter how much you try to reach them, they are unwilling to soften. “So as the Holy Spirit says; “Today, if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert. (Hebrews 3:7,8)

I had a dream yesterday, that a young girl had asked for me to be some kind of a mentor to her. I don’t know if I was in a restaurant or what it was. But when we got together, she was so full of pride, she kept telling me the way it was going to be. Every time I opened my mouth, she started talking. It was as if, I was working for her, and she was my manager. She was haughty and sat towering over me, as if I was now applying for a position at her company. It was all very strange. Almost as if she just wanted me here to feed her pride. It made me wonder why I bothered coming here in the first place.  I kept my mouth shut, as the Lord reminded me, “I am opposed to the proud, but I give grace to the humble.” I realized the Lord was testing her heart.

Now, I told her, “Look, you are the one who contacted me to help you. But I cannot, if you keep trying to teach me.A student isn’t greater than the teacher. You have no experience in this area, yet you are not teachable. You will  not accept any help. I do know about this. I don’t want recognition, because I am not looking for it. But you just have made this a miserable experience. I’m afraid I will have to stop this.”

About a week later, she contacted me and asked me to help again. “I can’t do this. I really need your help. I know you can teach me, because you have experience.” “Ok,” I told her, “But this time, you will have to trust me.” I have some knowledge in this area.” The exact same thing happened. This girl rose up against me.  Every time I tried to show her something or, help her, she knew better. It was as if this was so deeply ingrained in her, she just couldn’t stop herself. She couldn’t receive direction from me. She was the same as the Lords description of the Jews in the desert, “stubborn and stiff-necked.” I couldn’t take it anymore. I said, “That’s it! You’re on your own! I have reached the end of trying to reach out to someone who wants to wallow in their own mess they’ve created. If the hand is extended and it is not taken, what can you do?” A few weeks later, I went by a fast food restaurant to pick up some food and I saw her. She was miserable and I wanted to cry. I said hello to her. She looked so sad. She had eyes, which were pleading with me, but I didn’t know what to say. I knew it was something which had to happen to break her of her pride.

This is heartbreaking in the eyes of the church. The church is God’s presence on this earth. This is why we pray, “Your kingdom come, on earth, as it is in heaven.” We are the earthen vessels, which carry this very precious treasure. The Holy Spirit. Which makes us the Holy Church. The veiled Bride. Yes, we come and we go. Into many people’s lives. Some recognize us, and some do not.

So there are many in this world who run to buildings of worship, to go to church. This is a verb. But our Lord uses the description to Peter as a noun. The true church, which our Lord is referring to, is a living breathing organism. Vessels, which are yielded for His use. Regenerated vessels, by the power of the Holy Spirit. So when we walk this earth, we Are the Church!

Now let’s look back at the examples of Jesus Christ. He went into temples. But very few times did we see these examples given to us in scripture. His core ministry was to the lost and it was out in the world. He did not find importance to impress with accolades of the priests. Human pride is the downfall of many. They too, did not recognize Him. He was our example.

He was persecuted by the Pharisees and the Saducees. All the teachers of the Law. They were filled with pride. They wanted to teach the teacher. They had no idea who stood before them. Their eyes, were veiled.

Then, the unthinkable; they blasphemed him. They told him his power came from the devil. They were all liars, yet, when they spoke against the Holy Spirit by calling him a liar, they were condemned. (Luke 12:10)

Now as, believers, we represent the true church. Yet many don’t see. The Lord tells us; “And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever-the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives in you and will be in you.” (John 14:15-17)

So, we see here that many people in this world run to structures, which they call churches. They may have fellowship with one another. But the true church, presents itself to us. We do not run to it. And many times, as I know from my life. As I have gone forth to be a witness, I’ve been persecuted. People have grieved the Holy Spirit. Some have even blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

And remember the Lord told us that “if the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you. (John 15:18) So, we are not in bad company if feeling persecuted for no particular reason. It is because we are indwelt by His Spirit.

There’s nothing wrong with going to structures for fellowship. However, many people are inside buildings and have no relationship to Christ. That is not to say that some people in those buildings have no relationship to Christ.  By the same token, many of the true church, do not run to buildings. Just like Christ and His disciples. They did not waste time, on buildings. They ministered as they went about their daily lives. Christ gave the commission, and made no mention of “making structures.” The problem was with Judas taking in the money, if you recall. Those disciples were to get their needs met by the people along the way. The true church, as they fed the gospel, they were fed, by the Father. Their, ‘daily bread.” There was no room for corruption. And the disciples continued to work at their jobs. Interesting isn’t it? I had a young girl tell me that “the church is a business.” Which clearly showed me her lack of understanding about what the capacity of the church really is.” But this is why our Lord entered into the temple with a whip and turned over the tables.

I had not been so keenly aware in my past. We are to be consecrated for His use. If someone is turned out, of the church. It is not punishment. It is for their own consecration. To preserve their soul. The Lord loves us so much and is willing to do everything possible to bring us back. Not willing that any man should perish. He speaks of His discipline “for our righteousness.”

Many times I had dragged the Lord into acts of unrighteousness without any understanding of the Holy Spirit in my life. To keep the temple holy. It meant nothing to me. I was stubborn and rebellious and thought it was just a bunch of words. The Lord had to train me through much suffering.

His desire is to present to Himself a radiant bride. Spotless and without blemish or wrinkle. So we must see that until this time, we will suffer to that end. So, the bride is on the earth making herself ready. She is presenting herself before the masses with a message of hope. Spreading the Good News. It is a message for all mankind. I’m praying that your bitterness does not enter in and the veil be removed. The Lord wants everyone to enter into His wedding feast.

The Spirit and the Bride say Come Lord Jesus!

The Wedding Feast

The Father of Lies

Now to continue on the earlier posts, the lies in our lives must be “pulled down.” The Father of lies, is the devil and he is busy all day long. He continues to wreak havoc in our lives. Spinning, spinning, spinning. I have had a saying, “when truth is absent, deception abounds.”

Yes, he is called, “The Accuser.” When other’s point the finger of guilt at someone, it is to avoid looking into the mirror. However, the Holy Spirit, does bring conviction of sin. This is done with love. But, when it is not in love, then we know, who is behind it.

Now, the other day, I was talking with someone about some issues, and my son was sitting in the next room. I heard him pipe up, and he said, “It’s bad parenting.” First of all, I thought. It’s not his business, but then wondered, where in the world did he hear this? “No, it’s not.” I corrected him. I was addressing an issue of spiritual authority, which the Lord wants us to understand, and this has nothing to do with bad parenting. I wanted him to understand, that this is a label, and a judgement, which I surely didn’t make. But later, I had to ponder this. I remembered, him making this statement to me as a joke, the day before, and wondered where he had heard it. Was it in reference to me? Was it a statement which someone said, I made about them? This disturbed me even more. Because, I know how the enemy operates, and this is an accusatory statement, I was upset.

But this is exactly what Satan does to people to keep them divided and bitter. He makes untrue statements about God’s Word, and a persons character, and twists it all around. Then he uses emotions to build his fortress of evil. If he can get someone to carry out his evil plans he has won. This is why the Lord tells us, “not to let the sun go down on our anger.” Do not even give it a day.

This is what scripture tells us about this, “You belong to your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)

We must line everything up to God’s Word. Is this true? Is this what God would say? At any rate, we are all bad, because, we’re sinners, and we have all gone astray, as the Lord has told us. Each one of us. So, I would certainly not place myself in any position of honor. I know that I have only received grace like everyone else. But when the Lord has given us stewardship of souls, He also asks for an accounting, one day. I am very much aware of this, and desire those around me to know the authority which we are under.

I have been made keenly aware of the fact that everything we do has future ramifications. I never understood the seed time and harvest, as much as I do now. Yes, the old cliché, “Youth is wasted on the young,” is more profound than ever. If only they knew, how serious, the decisions will affect the rest of their lives. I only pray, that they can see, what I could not.

But yet, I still have my bible, that was given to me, when I was placed in a Children’s Home, at only 7 years old. The front cover is completely torn off, but inscribed on the first page is written, “Happy are those who listen to God’s Word and keep it.”Luke 11:28 From Robert, the Sunday School Teacher, May 9, 1965

I would say, that sums it up. That Sunday school teacher, planted the seeds, which I needed to carry me through this difficult life. The Father of lies, was going to come against me time after time. Being in the Children’s Home, was only the first of his lies. He was telling me I would never see my mother or father again. He was telling me I was to be an orphan. No one cared about me.

But that’s all he does is lie. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, his strategy is to keep people divided with his lies, because if they are all together in unity, he would be exposed. So the lies he tells, must keep people divided. So the signature of the enemy is that he does NOT want unity. Look around. Do you see people like that? the enemy wants division. Discord. Understand this is warfare. Learn by studying the word! Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment and wisdom.

The Lord wants unity of spirit. Love, honesty. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
